I became exhausted with the noise\u2026at work, at home, on the commute. I didn&#8217;t know the name for it at the time, but I was suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/sensory-overload\">sensory overload.<\/a>\u00a0A friend recommended I try floating (or sensory deprivation) and I was delighted to find one in Shanghai, not so far from my office.<\/p><p>My first float was really special. I immediately felt relaxed the moment I entered the float space, and when I closed the door and lay down in the salt water, I knew I was in the right place! The first moment of stillness I had experienced in literally months.<\/p><p>I let go completely and my mind shut off. I reached a state where I had no idea of time and space. No attachment to anything, no demands to meet, no place to be, no sense of where I was. Give your overactive brain a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sensory_deprivation#Flotation_REST\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REST<\/a>\u00a0for once!<\/p><p>Ask yourself the following questions:<\/p><ol><li>Do you have more than 5 tabs open right now?<\/li><li>Do you sit in front of a computer in order to earn money?<\/li><li>Is your job to optimize something over and over?<\/li><li>Is concentrated looking and listening required to complete tasks in your job?<\/li><li>Do you suffer from decision fatigue or brain fog?<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>If you\u2019ve answered yes, then do yourself a massive favour and give floating a try! It has transformed my life in so many ways &#8211; I don&#8217;t suffer from brain fog any more, I am unbelievably productive at work, and way more calm than I&#8217;ve ever been, and my back pain has melted away.
