Cupping

Cupping is a traditional treatment method where small cups are placed on the skin to create a vacuum. This increases blood circulation, loosens connective tissue, and helps the body release tension and toxins.

The treatment can be especially beneficial for muscle pain, tension headaches, stiffness, or post-workout soreness, but it’s also used to promote general well-being and balance in the body.

At Copenhagen Float, cupping is always tailored to the individual, ensuring a safe and comfortable treatment that suits your needs — as a supplement to your massage.

Cupping FAQ

Does cupping hurt?

Most people describe cupping as a deep but pleasant sensation. There may be slight soreness afterward, but it fades quickly.

Is cupping for everybody?

Cupping is generally safe when performed by a trained professional, but it is not suitable in the following cases:
• Fever, acute infections, or inflammation of the skin
• Open wounds, bruises, or sunburn in the treatment area
• Bleeding disorders or use of anticoagulant medication (e.g. warfarin)
• Severe varicose veins or fragile skin
• Pregnancy (avoid the abdomen and lower back)
• Cancer, severe heart disease, or uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Immediately after surgery or in cases of recent trauma.

Can cupping be combined with regular massage?

Yes, cupping works very well in combination with classic or sports massage, where the cups are used as an additional tool to release deep tension.

Aftercare and what to expect

After cupping, it’s normal to experience mild redness or circular marks on the skin — these are not bruises and usually disappear within a few days.

To support healing and maximize the benefits:
• Keep the treated area warm and covered for several hours
• Avoid exposure to cold, showering, or strenuous exercise for 12–24 hours
• Stay well hydrated to help your body flush out released waste products
• Give yourself time to rest and recover.
